FOCUS National Programs began in 1961, and the first programs on Martha's Vineyard were held in a house on the clay cliffs of Aquinnah in 1970 and 1971. In 1973, FOCUS was given the property now known as the FOCUS Study Center. This place became a summer retreat for independent school students to come ponder life’s big questions and enjoy time with their peers. A lot has changed in the past fifty years. The original house where programs were held on Martha's Vineyard is now an island cultural center, and FOCUS serves nearly 600 middle and high school students at National Programs at the FOCUS Study Center and beyond.
Both at our own property on Martha’s Vineyard and other resorts, retreat centers, and college campuses, students from independent schools along the east coast have the opportunity to join with others at FOCUS National Programs.
