Join us as we travel to Central America and work with local Christian ministries serving the children and communities in Guatemala. For the trip FOCUS is partnering with Adventures in Missions, who have long standing relationships with organizations in Guatemala. Our team will be involved in a variety of service activities to include opportunities such as working with children at local schools coordinating a sports camp or partnering with teachers to teach students English. Other service activities will include things like visiting a hospital for children with Cerebral Palsy, working with Potter's House at the Guatemala City dump, and traveling to a village to do school and home visits. Our team will experience the culture in a variety of ways with the trip wrapping up with a "fun day" where we will experience the local culture including a volcano hike, shopping, and delicious food.
We will be staying just outside of Antigua at a local youth center that Adventures in Missions uses to host many of their groups that travel to Guatemala. The youth center is located in a safe, gated community and will provide a great meeting spot for us as we head out each day to learn and serve. We will enjoy breakfast together each morning at the center and then bring a packed lunch with us as we head out each day. For dinner we will experience home-cooked, traditional Guatemalan food back at the youth center.
Safety is of the utmost priority to FOCUS and to the hosting staff of Adventures in Missions. The hosting staff are intentional about making certain that the team always remains as safe as possible. One of the greatest attributes to this program is that we are partnering with and plugging into a ministry that has been established long before we arrive and will remain long after we leave. We will be accompanied by a local Project Leader and translator at all times.
